Car Insurance

There are a few different kinds of car insurance. If the car is financed through a financial institution, there are specific requirements that have to be included in the car insurance.

Only once they have a full driver’s permit can they start thinking about getting a car. If they’re not quite ready to buy a car but you still want them to experience driving, you may need to add them to your existing car insurance as an additional driver. Give them the responsibility of paying the additional fee applicable so they get used to paying for car insurance.

Car insurance rates are based on several factors, including age, how long you’ve had your license, any previous car accidents, the type of car, where you live, and how much you drive during the month.

This insurance is non-negotiable if you drive because anything can happen. You can be the best driver in the world and still be involved in a collision because you are not the only driver on the road. Your safety also depends on those around you.

While you can encourage them to be a safe driver and give them tips, you should still discuss what they need to do if they get into an accident. Make sure they are equipped to deal with the situation. It’s important they follow these steps:

● If they were lucky and the car didn’t stop during the accident, they should stop immediately.

● If they have any serious injuries, they should avoid moving at all and wait until emergency personnel arrive to assist.

● If they are okay and have other people in the car, they should check them for injuries.

● If everyone seems okay and it’s safe, they should try to move to the side of the road. Where the car is still running and able to, they should get the car out of the road as well.

● If someone hasn’t already done so, it’s in their best interest to call the police and emergency services, regardless of how serious the accident was. In some states, it’s a legal requirement to involve the police and submit a report where some threshold in terms of damage has been met. This will be required by the insurer when claiming. If they are not sure whether it is required or not, they can ask their insurance company.

● Before they leave the scene, they should exchange personal information with the other driver who was involved in the accident. Details such as their full name, contact number, insurance company, insurance policy number, details of their vehicle (type, model, and color), license plate number, and take a photo of their driver’s license. They should also make a note of exactly where the accident happened. Tell them to film the scene or take as many pictures as they can involving the accident and surrounding areas.

○ Pro tip: Add a dash camera to their cars that will capture accidents as and when they occur. This can be very beneficial for insurer claims.

● Once all of this is done, they can call their insurer and start the process of submitting a claim.
